How To Make A Chemex Coffee At Home | 787 Coffee

If you love coffee and want to elevate your home brewing experience, Chemex is an excellent option. This pour-over technique produces a beautiful cup of coffee with clarity and depth of flavor; but it can take some practice to master the art of making a great cup. Here are some tips on how to make a Chemex coffee at home:

Let’s Connect!

  1. Prepare The Equipment:

Before you start brewing, make sure all your equipment is clean and in place — including the Chemex, filter, scale and kettle. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and then fold it into three layers so that it fits snugly into the top of the Chemex carafe.

  2. Weigh Out The Beans:

Since each type of bean has different degrees of acidity, sweetness, body and aroma; the amount of ground coffee used will affect the resulting brew's flavor profile. Start off with weighing out 20-21 grams (around 3 tablespoons) for each 8 oz cup; but feel free to adjust this ratio according to your own personal preference as you get more experienced in using this method!

  3. Boil Water & Bloom Grounds:

Fill up your kettle with good quality filtered water and bring it to a boil before pouring it over your grounds. For best results, use a gooseneck kettle which allows for more precise control over water flow rate during pouring — as this helps evenly saturate all the grounds for optimal extraction! Next, add just enough boiling water over the grounds to wet them completely — then wait for around 30 seconds until they “bloom” (bubbles should form).

  4. Add Remaining Water & Plunge:

Once blooming has occurred, slowly add the rest of boiling water into the Chemex — aiming at center while gradually moving towards edges in order to fully extract all flavors from beans! When finished pouring, give plunger a few stirs (but not too much!); then press down firmly on handle until all liquid has passed through filter — usually takes between 4-6 minutes depending on how strong you like your coffee!

And voila —

There you have it: beautifully brewed Chemex coffee ready to enjoy! Making perfect cups at home may take some time getting used to; but once mastered — this pour-over method will provide a delicious cup everytime!
