From Farm to Frame: How 787 Coffee Turned a Coffee Bag Into a Story Worth Telling

Let’s Connect on Social

At 787 Coffee, we believe coffee isn’t just a drink—it’s a journey. A journey that begins on our coffee farm in Maricao, Puerto Rico, and travels through the hands of passionate farmers, skilled roasters, and creative baristas, all the way to your cup. This year, we’re proud to share that this journey is being recognized at one of the most prestigious stages in the coffee world: SCA Expo 2025 in Houston.

Our 787 Coffee bags have been nominated for the Design in Coffee Awards, and for us, it’s more than just recognition. It’s a celebration of everything we stand for—resilience, creativity, community, and intention.

Why This Bag Matters

We didn’t rush to create a design that “just looks good.” We designed a coffee bag that feels like us. One that holds the weight of the last ten years—of growth, hardship, rebuilding, and joy. Every line and color tells a story. A real story.

  • The human on the left side of the bag represents you—our farmers, our baristas, and the loyal caffeinated humans who show up for us every single day.

  • The right side pays tribute to our Puerto Rican roots—to a land that’s seen us through hurricanes, shutdowns, and economic storms.

  • And the back? Our rally cry: “Let’s Do This!”—because this isn’t just about surviving the hard days. It’s about thriving through them, together.

This bag wasn’t just designed by a team—it was designed by our founder, Brandon Ivan Peña, who spent countless hours hand-illustrating every detail. He didn’t just create packaging—he created a visual diary of our brand's heart.

Designed with Purpose. Built with Love.

Since planting our first coffee trees in 2014, 787 Coffee has always been about more than beans. When we opened our first coffee shop in 2017, we were full of dreams. Then Hurricane Maria hit, and we lost that shop. But we came back. Stronger. In November 2018, we reopened with a new purpose—to serve not just great coffee, but to serve hope, connection, and creativity in every cup.

Today, we operate award-winning coffee shops in New York City, El Paso, and Puerto Rico, and we continue to roast and serve farm-to-cup coffee that’s full of purpose and flavor. Whether you’re sipping a Coquito Latte (yes, we invented it!) or brewing our subscription coffee beans at home, we want you to feel the love and story behind every sip.

Because Everything in Coffee Matters

Our 2025 coffee bag is proof that everything in coffee matters—from the way we farm to the way we package, present, and tell our story. We aren’t just in the business of coffee. We’re in the business of connecting humans through creativity, flavor, and purpose.

So, whether you're looking for:

  • The best coffee subscription to brew at home,

  • A latte that will blow your mind (try the Mazapán or our signature Coquito Latte),

  • Or simply the best coffee shop near you

Look no further than 787 Coffee. We’re here to fuel your journey, your creativity, and your hustle.

Let’s Do This — Together

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is the heart of the coffee industry, bringing together farmers, roasters, and coffee enthusiasts from around the world. It’s a platform for innovation, education, and networking, where key players in the coffee world come together to shape the future of coffee. For 787 Coffee, attending the SCA allows us to showcase Puerto Rican coffee, connect with fellow coffee professionals, and highlight the quality of micro-lot coffees grown on our island. By bringing Puerto Rican farmers to the SCA, we are not just promoting our beans – we are championing the Puerto Rican coffee community on the global stage.

We’re passionate about supporting small farms and elevating Puerto Rican coffee, and the SCA is the perfect place to connect with like-minded coffee professionals who share that same mission. By attending, 787 Coffee aims to inspire, educate, and build a stronger connection between coffee lovers and the farms that grow the beans.
